M15 Prussian universal coat (Preußischer Universal mantel) for officers. Eastern front. (Прусское универсальное пальто (Preußischer Universal mantel ) для офицеров. Восточный фронт. 1915 г.) M2-024-U

$ 290.0 per item

Historical background:
After enduring the first harsh winter, a universal greatcoat was introduced to provide soldiers with the protection they so desperately needed. This sturdy coat, like the field jacket, was entirely devoid of decorations and worn by both officers and enlisted men.

The officer’s overcoat had to precisely match the unit’s pattern in cut and color, eliminating the distinctions that had previously been so clearly visible. In addition to the use of supreme-quality fabric, minor variations were permitted — such as the officers’ narrower cut, which lacked the wide back pleat. The long rear vent fastened with metal buttons, which for officers could also be gilded or silver-plated.
